Our Mission:

We at West Elementary School are committed to developing a school environment where:
- Every person has the opportunity to affect student learning
- Students value themselves
- Students achieve to their highest potential

• West Elementary has approx. 420 Pre-Kindergarten through Third Grade students and an Early Childhood Disability Class.

• We have five sections of half day Kindergarten, five sections of First and Second Grade and four sections of Third Grade.

• We offer a Latchkey program through the YMCA before and after school. Site Director: Shannon White

• We have a 4 year old -at risk pre-school.

• Our Third graders take the Kansas State Assessments online in the spring.

• The original building was constructed in 1960 with updates and additions completed in 1970, 1980, and 1997. The entire building was completely remodeled in 1998 with all of the classrooms and hallways carpeted, and new ceilings with lights and technology wiring added in each room

• We have an Outdoor Wildlife Learning Site (OWLS).

• We host a Weather Station AWS in the computer lab where data is received and shown on NBC Channel 3 weather casts.

• We participate in the St. Jude's Walkathon and Wichita Walkfest, and have received 9 Golden Shoe Awards!

• We strive as a staff to do What's Best for Kids each and everyday.
